A social media influencer who regularly posted videos featuring gold jewellery and bundles of cash has had around Rs 1 crore worth of valuables stolen from her home in Tamil Nadu. Police investigating the case are examining whether information shared through her online posts may have helped the thieves understand the family’s movements and the valuables kept at the property.
The incident took place in the Thamathukonam area near Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district. The influencer, identified as Madhumitha, lives there with her husband, Vinod Kumar, and their child.
According to the complaint filed with police, the family left their home on Thursday evening, 24 September, to go shopping. When they returned later that night, they found that a cupboard in the bedroom had been broken open. Gold and diamond jewellery, along with cash kept inside, had disappeared.
The stolen property reportedly includes around 960 grams of gold jewellery, diamond ornaments and Rs 50,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen items has been estimated at approximately Rs 1 crore.
As part of the investigation, police are also examining Madhumitha’s social media accounts. Investigators have reportedly found several reels and posts in which she displayed valuable possessions.
In some of the videos, she can be seen wearing gold jewellery that was reportedly kept at the family home. Other posts showed bundles of cash arranged on a bed. One video on her profile also featured currency notes scattered over her child.
Investigators are looking into whether such posts inadvertently revealed information about the family’s possessions or routine. Police are also examining claims that Madhumitha had shared details on Facebook about where she purchased her jewellery.
The timing of the social media updates is another aspect being considered. Investigators are trying to determine whether anyone monitoring the family’s online activity could have obtained an indication of when the house was likely to be empty.
Police have not established that the social media posts were directly responsible for the theft. The possible connection remains part of the investigation, and officers are examining other evidence surrounding the break-in as they work to identify those responsible.
The case has also highlighted a broader security concern associated with publicly sharing details of expensive possessions and daily routines online. Posts intended as personal or lifestyle content can sometimes reveal information about property, movements or periods when a home may be unattended. In this case, police are assessing whether any such information was used by the perpetrators.
