At least 50 people were injured over two days following a series of dog attacks in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail, Bangladesh. Among the injured, one person was referred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Mohakhali, Dhaka. The incidents occurred on Sunday and Monday across Sakhipur Municipality and Kalia Union.
According to local residents, the first wave of attacks began around 2:00 pm on Sunday in Devolchala village under Kalia Union. A dog bit several individuals, including Abdul Rashid, before moving towards Sakhipur municipal town. It then attacked at least 20 more people between the Andhi area and Uttara Mor.
Later that night, around 10:00 pm, the dog moved through Kaharta village towards Kochua area. On Monday morning, further attacks were reported in Kalia, Ghonarchala, and Damia areas, affecting additional women and children. Among the injured were at least nine children and ten women.
In total, 45 of the injured received treatment at Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex, while others were treated at various private clinics. Medical officials confirmed that the injuries ranged from multiple bite wounds to deep lacerations.
Abdul Rashid, one of the victims, was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Mohakhali, Dhaka. Hafizur Rahman, a sub-assistant community medical officer at the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex, stated that his condition is serious.
Patients arriving at the hospital reported difficulty in managing the sudden influx of victims. Medical staff were seen cleaning wounds with soap and water before administering vaccinations. Dr Shamina Ahmed of the emergency department said that each patient had sustained multiple bite injuries, many of which were deep, and that all received initial treatment at the facility. The affected group included elderly men and women as well as children.
