Eight more children have died from measles-related symptoms across the country within the last 24 hours, spanning from 8:00 am on Friday to 8:00 am on Saturday. According to the latest report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday, a further 1,086 children were diagnosed with measles or exhibited symptoms of the disease during this 24-hour window.
The DGHS bulletin provided a geographical breakdown of the latest fatalities, noting that the eight deaths occurred across four major divisions. Three casualties were recorded in Dhaka, two in Sylhet, two in Mymensingh, and one in Chittagong.
This latest wave of infections contributes to a severe epidemiological trend observed since 15 March of this year. With these recent fatalities, the total death toll associated with the outbreak has reached 583 children. This figure comprises two distinct categories: 90 laboratory-confirmed measles deaths and 493 deaths where children exhibited distinct symptoms of the disease prior to confirmation.
Data compiled by the health authority reveals that since 15 March, a total of 69,612 children have presented with measles symptoms nationwide. The severity of the symptoms necessitated hospital admission for 55,705 of these patients. Concurrently, medical facilities have managed a high discharge rate, with 52,050 children successfully recovering and returning home after receiving treatment.
While the number of symptomatic cases approaches 70,000, official laboratory diagnostics have conclusively confirmed measles in 8,996 children since the monitoring period began on 15 March.
The following table aggregates the official data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services, outlining the progression of the outbreak from 15 March to the present date:
| Serial | Case Category | Cumulative Total |
| 01 | Total children exhibiting measles symptoms | 69,612 |
| 02 | Laboratory-confirmed measles cases | 8,996 |
| 03 | Symptomatic children requiring hospitalisation | 55,705 |
| 04 | Patients successfully recovered and discharged | 52,050 |
| 05 | Confirmed measles fatalities | 90 |
| 06 | Fatalities presenting with measles symptoms | 493 |
| 07 | Aggregate mortality toll (Confirmed & Symptomatic) | 583 |
The DGHS continues to monitor patient admissions, recoveries, and mortality rates across all affected divisions to manage the ongoing public health situation.
