Elderly Woman Found Dead at Home in Chattogram

An elderly woman was found dead at her home in the East Madarbari area of Chattogram on Wednesday evening, with police reporting visible injuries to her face. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding her death, including two missing mobile phones and an open iron gate at the rear of the property.

The deceased, identified as Noor Nahar, 75, was found at her residence near the government pond in East Madarbari, within the jurisdiction of Sadarghat Police Station. Her body was recovered on Wednesday, 28 October, and subsequently sent to the mortuary of Chattogram Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

Police have yet to establish the cause of death. The injuries found on her face, the missing phones and the condition of the rear entrance are among the details being examined as part of the investigation.

According to police and local sources, Noor Nahar usually stayed alone at home during the daytime. One of her sons died of blood cancer approximately 45 days before the incident. Her other son is employed and typically leaves home for work at around 7am, returning in the evening.

Police were informed that Noor Nahar had spoken to her son on Wednesday morning before he left for work. Investigators are now seeking to establish what happened at the house during the hours that followed. She also had a daughter whose in-laws live in Dhaka, according to information provided by local sources.

Mohammad Ekram Ullah, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station, confirmed that the body had been recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination.

He said injuries were visible on the woman’s face and that two mobile phones could not be found. Police are also investigating why the iron door at the back of the house was open and whether this detail has any connection with the incident.

The rear door was reportedly used mainly by tenants living in the property. Investigators are therefore examining the circumstances surrounding access to the house, alongside other evidence gathered at the scene. However, the fact that the door was open does not, by itself, establish whether anyone entered the property unlawfully or whether the incident involved another person.

Police have stressed that it is too early to determine how Noor Nahar died. The post-mortem findings and other evidence gathered during the investigation are expected to help clarify the circumstances of her death.

Separately, claims circulating on social media have described Noor Nahar as a former women’s affairs secretary of the Awami League’s Ward No. 30 unit in East Madarbari. Her reported political affiliation has not been independently confirmed.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are treating the injuries, the missing mobile phones and the open rear entrance as relevant lines of inquiry, but no definitive conclusion about the cause or circumstances of her death has yet been reached.
