Elon Musk, CEO of the American electric car manufacturer Tesla, has announced that he wants to create a ‘robot army’ that could transform human life in the future. According to a report by the American technology magazine Wired, Musk revealed this plan during Tesla’s recent earnings call (post-financial results discussion).

Musk stated that strong control over Tesla is essential for the development of robots and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. He told investors, I won’t feel comfortable building a robot army if I don’t have sufficient influence over its operations. Not full control, but strong influence is necessary.

He has proposed increasing his voting power in the company to nearly 25 percent and defended a compensation package worth approximately $975 billion. According to the plan, Tesla must achieve several major goals over the next 10 years, including increasing the company’s market value from $1 trillion to $8.5 trillion, delivering 20 million electric vehicles, and producing 1 million robotaxis and 1 million humanoid robots (Optimus).

Musk claims that humanoid robots could revolutionize society—reducing human labor, alleviating poverty, and expanding advanced healthcare. In his words, Optimus is an ‘incredible surgeon’ that could create a world where working is optional, but everyone has access to a better life.

A vote on this proposal will take place at Tesla’s annual general meeting on November 6. Musk has cautioned on social media platform X that if the board does not approve the plan, he might even consider leaving Tesla.
