Enamul Haque Jnr Inspires Bangladesh Champions to Victory over India

Bangladesh Champions secured a memorable victory over India Champions in the World Championship of Legends, defending a modest total in a thrilling contest at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Enamul Haque Jnr claimed four wickets, while Abu Jayed Rahi delivered a disciplined spell in the closing overs to help Bangladesh overcome one of the tournament’s leading contenders.
Bangladesh’s bowlers put India under pressure from the beginning of the chase, taking key wickets during the powerplay and preventing the opposition from building momentum. Although India threatened a late recovery, Bangladesh maintained their composure to protect their total of 141 for eight and complete an impressive win.
India captain Yuvraj Singh won the toss and elected to field, giving Bangladesh the opportunity to bat first. The decision initially appeared to have little impact on the visitors, as Bangladesh made an aggressive start, scoring 30 runs in the first two overs.
The momentum shifted in the third over, however, when Imrul Kayes was dismissed for 10 off six deliveries on the first ball. His departure marked the beginning of a difficult period for Bangladesh, who began losing wickets at regular intervals.
Rony Talukdar provided the innings with its most explosive contribution. He struck 40 off just 25 balls, keeping the scoring rate healthy despite the loss of wickets at the other end. His innings offered Bangladesh a strong platform, but Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, Jahurul Islam and captain Mahmudullah Riyad were unable to provide substantial support.
Rony’s dismissal further slowed the innings, leaving Bangladesh in need of a partnership to prevent a collapse. Nasir Hossain and Arafat Sunny responded with valuable contributions, helping the side recover during a challenging phase.
Nasir, who had previously represented Bangladesh at international level, demonstrated his experience with a composed innings under pressure. He scored 24 off 21 deliveries, including two fours, helping to stabilise the batting effort. Although he was eventually dismissed by Piyush Chawla, his contribution proved useful in keeping the innings on track.
Arafat Sunny then played an important role towards the end, scoring 37 off 38 balls. His innings helped Bangladesh reach a competitive total despite the regular loss of wickets.
Bangladesh finished their allotted 20 overs on 141 for eight. Chawla was India’s most successful bowler, claiming three wickets, while Pawan Negi and Rishi Dhawan took two wickets apiece.
India needed 142 runs to win, but their chase began poorly. Ambati Rayudu was dismissed when the team score stood at just four, giving Bangladesh an immediate breakthrough. Stuart Binny and captain Yuvraj Singh soon followed, leaving India under considerable pressure.
The situation deteriorated further when Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan were dismissed before India had reached 55 runs. With several experienced batters back in the pavilion, Bangladesh appeared firmly in control of the contest.
Rishi Dhawan briefly offered India hope, scoring 24 off 18 deliveries. His attacking approach threatened to shift the momentum, but Enamul Haque Jnr struck at a crucial moment to interrupt the recovery. Enamul’s four-wicket haul proved central to Bangladesh’s success, as his timely breakthroughs prevented India from establishing a sustained partnership.
At the other end, Irfan Pathan scored 24 from 41 deliveries. His prolonged stay at the crease did little to ease the pressure, as India struggled to score at the rate required. With the target still within reach, however, the contest remained open.
Pawan Negi and Piyush Chawla mounted a late challenge with aggressive batting, making the closing stages considerably more tense. Their efforts raised the prospect of an Indian comeback and forced Bangladesh to remain alert despite having controlled much of the chase.
Abu Jayed Rahi then played a decisive role during the death overs. His controlled bowling restricted India’s opportunities to score freely, preventing the lower order from completing the recovery. Bangladesh held their nerve at a critical stage, ensuring that the early advantage gained through Enamul’s wickets was not squandered.
The victory reflected contributions from both the batting and bowling units. Rony Talukdar’s rapid 40 gave Bangladesh early momentum, Nasir Hossain helped steady the innings, and Arafat Sunny’s 37 provided valuable runs towards the end. With the ball, Enamul’s four wickets and Rahi’s disciplined execution under pressure proved decisive.
Defending 141 for eight against an experienced Indian side was no straightforward task. Bangladesh needed early breakthroughs, tight bowling and calm decision-making in the closing overs. They delivered on all three fronts, turning a modest total into a match-winning score.
The result was a significant achievement for Bangladesh Champions in the World Championship of Legends. Their performance in Sharjah demonstrated how disciplined bowling and timely contributions with the bat can overcome a challenging situation, even when the opposition has considerable experience.
