Local sources indicate that the conflict stemmed from a prolonged dispute between Nurul Islam and his cousin Shamsuddin over ownership and control of a parcel of land in the village. The disagreement had reportedly persisted for an extended period, with repeated tensions flaring between the two sides.
On Wednesday morning, when one group began earth-cutting activities on the disputed land, members of the opposing faction intervened, insisting that the land was under contention. The verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation involving sharp weapons and blunt-force attacks, leaving multiple people injured on the spot.
Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Maksud of Kendua Police Station confirmed that the situation in the area is currently under control. Law enforcement personnel were deployed shortly after the incident to stabilise the scene and prevent further clashes.
No arrests have been made so far. The body of Soma Akhtar has been sent to the Netrokona District Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Police have stated that legal proceedings are underway and efforts are continuing to identify those responsible for the violence.
Authorities have also urged local residents to remain calm while investigations proceed, as the incident has heightened tensions within the community.
