Fifty-one individuals have been apprehended following a comprehensive law enforcement operation conducted across multiple high-risk areas in the capital. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Tejgaon Division spearheaded the coordinated initiative, carrying out a series of targeted, overnight raids on Tuesday, 7 July.
According to official sources within the Tejgaon Division police, the sweeping crackdown was executed as part of a structured, ongoing security campaign to curb criminal activities. Law enforcement personnel focused their efforts on known crime hotspots across six key police stations: Tejgaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Mohammadpur, Adabor, Tejgaon Industrial Area, and Hatirjheel.
A detailed breakdown of the operations indicates that the highest concentration of apprehensions occurred within the jurisdiction of the Mohammadpur Police Station, where officers took sixteen suspects into custody. This was closely followed by the Adabor Police Station, which logged eleven arrests. Meanwhile, police teams in both the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Hatirjheel areas managed to detain nine suspects respectively.
The central Tejgaon Police Station accounted for five additional arrests over the course of the night. By contrast, the lowest volume of activity was recorded under the Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, where officers processed a single arrest during the division-wide operation.
Operational Breakdown:
Mohammadpur: 16 arrests
Adabor: 11 arrests
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar: 9 arrests
Hatirjheel: 9 arrests
Tejgaon: 5 arrests
Tejgaon Industrial Area: 1 arrest
Senior law enforcement officials confirmed that the fifty-one detained individuals face a diverse array of criminal charges. Allegations filed against the suspects include active involvement in domestic burglary, street-level muggings, extortion, and the possession and distribution of illicit narcotics. Many of these suspects had been under surveillance following an uptick in petty theft and organised street crime within the urban centres of the division.
Following the successful completion of the overnight raids, the relevant police stations immediately initiated formal legal proceedings against all the accused individuals. Case files are being processed in alignment with the existing statutory frameworks, and the suspects are expected to be produced before the metropolitan magistrates’ courts to face formal charges.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police representatives have emphasised that this targeted sweep is not an isolated event. Law enforcement agencies intend to maintain this heightened state of vigilance, with similar unannounced operations scheduled over the coming weeks to dismantle local criminal networks and ensure public safety across residential and commercial sectors alike.
