In a targeted security operation in South Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, law enforcement personnel from the Rapid Action Battalion-10 (RAB-10) arrested five individuals and recovered 68 rounds of ammunition, alongside mobile phones believed to be linked to their activities.
The arrests were made during a late-night raid conducted on Tuesday, 28 April, at approximately 9:30 pm in the Par Gendaria area under Shubhadya Union. Acting on intelligence reports, RAB-10 officials launched the operation after receiving information that an organised group was allegedly in possession of firearms and was hiding in the locality.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-10, the elite force had been conducting routine anti-crime and anti-narcotics patrols in the South Keraniganj area when they were alerted to the suspected presence of armed individuals.
The operation resulted in the arrest of four men and one woman. Authorities confirmed that 68 rounds of ammunition and three mobile phones were seized from their possession during the raid. The recovered items are now under police custody as part of ongoing investigative procedures.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Alamgir Hossain (50), Md. Sajib (27), Asha Akter Jhorna (20), Md. Apu Bepari (24), and Md. Khokon (56). They were subsequently handed over to South Keraniganj Police Station, where legal proceedings are being initiated under relevant sections of the law.

Security officials have indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition and whether the group has any wider connections to organised criminal activity in the region. Authorities are also examining possible links between the suspects and other recent incidents involving illegal arms possession in and around Dhaka’s southern districts.
Law enforcement agencies continue to intensify surveillance and intelligence-driven operations in an effort to curb the circulation of illegal weapons and maintain public safety in densely populated urban and semi-urban areas.
