Four Dead in Mymensingh Road Crash

A tragic collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh’s Muktagachha upazila has claimed four lives, with authorities confirming an increased death toll following the incident.

The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Monday at the Montola area of the Mymensingh–Tangail highway under Kumarghata in Muktagachha. According to police and eyewitness accounts, a sand-laden truck travelling from Muktagachha towards Mymensingh collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw heading in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was severe. The auto-rickshaw was left mangled beyond recognition, while the truck overturned onto the road, causing further disruption to traffic along the busy highway.

Three female passengers of the auto-rickshaw died instantly at the scene. Emergency responders, including firefighters and police units, rushed to the site after being alerted through the national emergency helpline. The injured truck driver, his assistant, and the auto-rickshaw driver were initially rescued and transported to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment.

However, hospital authorities later confirmed that one of the injured victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment, raising the death toll to four. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed, as authorities continue efforts to verify personal details and contact relatives.

Fire Service official Mosharraf Hossain stated that three bodies were recovered from the accident site and handed over to police following initial examination. He added that local residents assisted emergency teams in rescuing the injured and clearing the scene.

Officer-in-Charge of Muktagachha Police Station, Kamrul Hasan, confirmed that law enforcement responded promptly after receiving reports of the crash. He said that a formal investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision and to identify those involved.
