Acting on precise intelligence, law enforcement personnel launched late-night operations on Friday (2 October) to apprehend the suspects. The arrested individuals face an array of serious criminal charges, ranging from murder, robbery, and extortion to arms possession and drug trafficking.

Police identified the primary suspect as 19-year-old Imran Hossain Ratan, the leader of the “Team R” gang. Ratan faces nine pending criminal cases involving murder, mugging, extortion, and illegal firearms. His associate, 20-year-old Saiful Islam, is named in ten similar cases.

The other two arrested gang leaders were identified as 24-year-old Md Sabbir, alias “Point Sabbir,” who heads the “Crime Setup” gang, and 24-year-old Rabiul Islam Nabi, alias “King Maker.” Both individuals face multiple formal charges related to robbery, mugging, and extortion across the district.

The targeted arrests formed part of a broader ten-day joint crackdown ordered by Cumilla District Superintendent of Police Anisuzzaman to restore public order and eliminate gang violence. During the extensive sweep across the district, joint teams of DB and local police detained over 2,000 suspects for screening and interrogation.

Following careful verification, law enforcement initiated formal legal proceedings against individuals with verified criminal records or direct ties to violent gangs. Conversely, youths with no proven involvement in serious crimes were released into the custody of their parents after signing written undertakings aimed at facilitating their social rehabilitation.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfar Rahman affirmed that anti-gang operations will persist until juvenile gang culture is thoroughly eradicated from the district. He warned that law enforcement will identify and prosecute senior figures or “godfathers” who instigate, fund, or protect juvenile offenders. Police authorities also urged parents and guardians across the district to closely monitor their children’s daily activities, companions, and whereabouts.
