Four-Year-Old Boy Dies After Speeding Car Strike in Agargaon

A four-year-old child has succumbed to severe injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early on Thursday morning, hours after being struck by a fast-moving private car near the National Museum of Science and Technology in the capital’s Agargaon area.

The deceased child, identified as Zisan, was the elder of two brothers. His family originally hails from Gudirpur village in the Lalmohan upazila of Bhola district, though they currently reside in West Agargaon. His father, Ali Akbar, works as a local trader.

According to the victim’s family, the fatal accident took place around 12:00 pm on Wednesday. Zisan was playing near his residence along the road outside the science museum. The tragedy unfolded in a split second as the young boy stepped down from the central traffic island onto the carriageway, only to be hit violently by a speeding private car. The impact knocked him onto the pavement, causing grave physical trauma.

Witnesses and local residents rushed to the scene immediately following the collision, rescuing the unconscious toddler. He was initially admitted to the nearby National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon. However, as his condition continued to deteriorate rapidly, doctors advised transferring him to DMCH for advanced intensive medical care.

Zisan was subsequently admitted to the One-Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC) at DMCH, where healthcare professionals battled through the night to stabilise him. Despite their best efforts, the young boy passed away at around 4:00 am on Thursday.

Sub-Inspector Md Selim Hossain, from the DMCH Police Outpost, confirmed the death and stated that the body has been placed in the hospital morgue pending a formal autopsy. Authorities at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station have been duly notified of the casualty, and legal procedures surrounding the hit-and-run incident are currently underway.

Road traffic collisions involving pedestrians, particularly young children playing close to busy thoroughfares, remain a persistent road safety challenge across urban Bangladesh. Urban planning experts frequently highlight the lack of designated play spaces in residential neighbourhoods, forcing children onto busy streets where high-speed traffic poses a constant threat.
