Fresh Breakthroughs as Friend Remanded over Ex-Air Force Officer’s Death

Investigators probing the suspicious death of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant K M Tahsif Saori have made a significant breakthrough following the arrest of a female suspect, named locally as ‘Disha’, alongside the formal questioning of the victim’s close friend under a four-day remand order.

The River Police launched an overnight operation on Saturday, 31 October, successfully taking Disha into custody. Her arrest coincides with the commencement of intensive interrogations involving Tahsif’s long-time associate, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep. The suspect was remanded by Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Pias in Dhaka after police petitioned for a seven-day period to facilitate a thorough investigation. Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsud Doha Sumon confirmed that the court granted four days for sustained questioning.

Police Super of the River Police (Dhaka Region), Abdullah Al Mamun, revealed that initial evidence strongly indicates Deep’s involvement in the mystery surrounding the officer’s death. Officials remain cautious, withholding further granular details to protect the integrity of the ongoing inquiry.

Tahsif, aged 28, mysteriously vanished after leaving his residence in Uttara on Tuesday evening. The following afternoon, River Police recovered his lifeless body from the Turag River, near the Rajabari Ghat area in Tongi.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage analyzed by investigators proved pivotal in tracking the victim’s final hours. The recordings demonstrate that Deep remained in Tahsif’s company continuously from 6:30 pm until 1:30 am on the night of the disappearance. Informants and video evidence confirmed that Deep accompanied Tahsif to the Mazar Slum area in Tongi. Crucially, Tahsif never emerged from the location, whereas Deep returned alone. Officers noted severe inconsistencies in Deep’s initial statements, which heightened suspicions regarding his direct involvement.

Detectives from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) originally detained Deep during a late-night raid on Thursday at his residence on Babar Road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. His formal arrest was recorded on Friday night after the victim’s father, K M Enayetul Karim, lodged a murder case at Uttara Khan Police Station against unidentified perpetrators.

Speaking to reporters at his Uttara home, Karim expressed profound anguish over the loss of his son and highlighted the glaring contradictions in the suspect’s narrative. Deep was a frequent visitor to their household, yet his statements following Tahsif’s disappearance raised immediate alarms.

“Deep confessed to the PBI that they had travelled to Tongi together,” Karim explained. “However, he initially lied to me, claiming he had dropped Tahsif off right outside our residential compound. That major discrepancy triggered immense suspicion. I simply want an impartial, swift investigation to uncover the unvarnished truth.”

With both the bar acquaintance Disha in custody and Deep facing rigorous interrogation under remand, law enforcement agencies are attempting to reconstruct the precise sequence of events that led to the former military officer’s tragic demise.
