Bangladesh has confirmed that it holds sufficient fuel reserves to meet national demand for April and May, according to the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Anindya Islam Amit.
Speaking to journalists on Friday (17 April) following an inspection of the Eastern Refinery Limited in Chattogram, the minister said the country is currently maintaining full stock levels for the two months ahead. He further noted that preparations are already underway to ensure adequate supply for June, reflecting a forward-looking approach to energy security management.
The minister emphasised that the government is working continuously to guarantee uninterrupted fuel availability across the country. He claimed that the present level of reserves represents the highest fuel stock in the nation’s history, underscoring what he described as a significant milestone in energy sector stability.
According to him, the authorities are also strengthening supply resilience by diversifying import sources for both refined petroleum products and crude oil. This strategy is aimed at reducing dependency on any single supplier and ensuring smoother procurement in the face of global market fluctuations.
He added that initiatives are underway to increase the supply of refined fuel, while parallel efforts are being made to secure crude oil imports for domestic refining. In this regard, Malaysia and several other countries have been identified as potential alternative sources of crude oil for the Eastern Refinery Limited.
The minister also highlighted that enhancing refining capacity and ensuring steady import flows remain central to the government’s energy policy. Officials are reportedly assessing logistical and commercial arrangements to maintain consistent supply chains in the coming months.
Overall, the government’s position reflects confidence in short-term fuel stability, alongside a broader strategy to strengthen medium-term supply security through diversified imports and improved stock management.
