Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated following a joint military strike by Israel and the United States on Iranian targets. Tehran has responded with stern warnings, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict. The escalation has disrupted civilian life and air travel across the Arabian Sea, the Persian Gulf, and parts of the Mediterranean, with numerous countries suspending both domestic and international flights amid mounting security concerns.
In response to the attacks, multiple nations have voiced strong condemnation of the strikes. Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot urged restraint, emphasising that ordinary citizens should not bear the consequences of government actions. “We deeply regret that diplomatic efforts could not reach an earlier resolution,” he stated, highlighting the diplomatic fallout accompanying the military escalation.
Norwegian authorities also expressed concern, arguing that while Israel described the strike as “preventive,” it does not comply with international law. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stressed that preventive attacks require an immediate and credible threat, which, according to Oslo, was not evident.
Pakistan joined the chorus of criticism, with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar calling for rapid de-escalation. He urged an immediate diplomatic response to resolve the crisis peacefully and prevent further destabilisation in the region. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia issued its condemnation of Iran’s retaliatory measures in the Gulf, although reports later indicated explosions near Riyadh, underscoring the precarious security situation.
The unfolding crisis has already had tangible effects on air travel, trade, and regional security. International airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and others, have rerouted or suspended flights to and from affected Middle Eastern nations. Local governments are actively monitoring the situation and advising citizens to follow official safety directives.
| Country | Statement / Action | Notes on Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Belgium | Condemned civilian punishment; called for restraint | Emphasised diplomacy over escalation |
| Norway | Criticised preventive strike as illegal under international law | Stressed immediate threat criteria |
| Pakistan | Strongly condemned Israel-US strike; urged diplomatic resolution | Highlighted urgency for peace efforts |
| Saudi Arabia | Condemned Iranian retaliation in Gulf; explosions reported near Riyadh | Air travel and local security affected |
| UAE & Gulf | Suspended flights and port operations | Civilian and commercial disruption |
Analysts warn that the conflict could further destabilise the already volatile Middle East region, with potential economic, humanitarian, and security consequences. International observers are calling for urgent dialogue, stressing that coordinated diplomatic interventions remain the only viable solution to prevent further escalation.
The situation remains fluid, and global attention is now focused on Tehran, Washington, and Jerusalem as the world waits to see whether diplomacy can avert a wider conflagration.
