A 55-year-old man was shot dead after armed assailants stormed his residence in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Sunday morning, following a long-standing local feud. The victim, identified as Momen Mia, suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his head and leg during the attack, which also left three others severely injured.
The incident occurred in the Sadagarkandi area of Chanpur Union under Raipura upazila. Police identified the deceased as the son of the late Dhon Mia, a resident of the same village. The three injured individuals—Mobarok, 65, Nazmul Hossain, 30, and Ruhul Amin, 37—were rushed to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex, where they remain under medical care for gunshot and assault injuries.
Local residents and relatives stated that the violent episode stemmed from a lingering dispute between two local factions, known as the Farid Group and the Momen Chairman Group. Although the local Member of Parliament had previously mediated a reconciliation between the opposing sides, tensions resurfaced recently over territorial dominance.
Tensions boiled over on Sunday morning when armed supporters belonging to the Farid group breached Momen Mia’s home carrying weapons and firearms. The attackers opened fire indiscriminately, hitting Momen in the head and leg before assaulting relatives who attempted to intervene.
Emergency medical responders at the Raipura Upazila Health Complex declared Momen dead upon arrival. Dr Binita, an emergency medical officer at the facility, reported that the victim was brought in covered in blood with no detectable pulse or blood pressure, suggesting he succumbed to excessive blood loss before reaching the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station, Mujibur Rahman, confirmed the fatalities and clashes between the rival groups. He stated that law enforcement personnel were dispatched immediately to restore order, and additional police forces have been deployed across Sadagarkandi to prevent further retaliatory violence. Police have initiated operations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the fatal attack.
