A low-pressure system forming over the north-western Bay of Bengal has significantly strengthened the seasonal monsoon, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to issue widespread rain and thunderstorm alerts across multiple divisions over the coming days.

According to an official weather bulletin issued on Monday evening at 6:00 pm, monsoon activity remains fairly active over the country and strong across the northern reaches of the Bay of Bengal. The synoptic weather pattern indicates that the monsoon trough extends through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and the centre of the low-pressure zone, stretching across southern Bangladesh to Assam. This atmospheric configuration is pulling significant moisture into the region, driving continuous cloud formation and widespread precipitation.

Meteorologists forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by temporary gusty winds across most areas of the Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions over the 24-hour period ending Tuesday evening. Similarly, numerous districts within the Rangpur, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions are expected to experience intermittent rain and thunder. Authorities have warned that isolated regions throughout the country may face moderate to heavy downpours, raising concerns about potential urban waterlogging and localised disruption to transport.

Daytime temperatures are projected to remain largely steady across the nation, whereas overnight temperatures may register a slight drop due to sustained cloud cover and rainfall. Weather conditions over the five-day forecast window suggest that damp and stormy conditions will persist as the low-pressure system settles along the coastal belt.

Heavy monsoon rains frequently strain civic infrastructure in Bangladesh’s urban centres, where drainage systems often struggle to cope with sudden, high-volume precipitation. Agricultural communities also monitor these shifts closely, as timely rainfall supports the ongoing monsoon cropping cycle, even as intense downpours risk inundating low-lying farmland. Maritime ports and coastal fishing fleets have been advised to exercise caution and stay alert to further updates from meteorological authorities as the offshore system develops.
