High Court Petition Seeks Postponement of JUCSU Election

A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking the postponement of the Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JUCSU) election.

 

The petition was submitted on Monday, 8 September, at the relevant branch of the High Court. The applicant, Amartya Roy, has requested the postponement of the upcoming JUCSU election. A division bench of the High Court is scheduled to hear the petition later this week.

 

The final list of candidates for the JUCSU election has been published. A total of 179 candidates have been approved to contest for various positions. Among them:

  • Vice President (VP): 10 candidates
  • General Secretary (GS): 9 candidates

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Senate Hall of the university’s old administrative building by Professor Dr. A K M Rashidul Alam, Secretary of the JUCSU Election Commission. Commission members Professor Mafruhi Sattar and Professor Dr. K. Lutful Elahi were also present.

For executive member positions reserved for female students, 16 candidates will contest three posts, while 26 male candidates will contest the three posts reserved for male students. In total, 46 female candidates are contesting various positions, including two for the GS post.

Election Schedule

  • Campaigning: 29 August – 9 September (midnight)
  • Voting: 11 September, 09:00 – 17:00

The election follows the university’s established schedule, with candidates campaigning until midnight on 9 September, ahead of the polling day on 11 September.
