The deceased, identified as Wadud Biswas, was found hanging inside a makeshift tin-roofed structure in the Chhagol Hata area of Natun Bazar in Kaliganj town. Police recovered his body at around 7am on Friday (6 November), following reports from local residents.
Wadud was the son of Matiar Biswas and hailed from the Nadipara area of Arpara village in Kaliganj town. He ran a rice hotel, a local eatery serving rice-based meals, in the Natun Bazar area and was known locally through his business.
According to police and local sources, residents spotted the body hanging inside an open-sided, four-walled structure with a pitched roof at Chhagol Hata early on Friday morning. Concerned by what they had seen, they alerted the police.
Officers from Kaliganj Police Station subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the body. The incident prompted concern among local residents, although the circumstances leading to Wadud’s death remain unclear.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Julfikar Ali said officers reached the location after receiving information and recovered the body at around 7am.
He added that police were preparing an inquest report before sending the body to the morgue at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The examination is expected to help establish the medical cause of death.
Police have not yet determined whether Wadud died by suicide or was killed. The authorities said it would be premature to reach any conclusion before receiving the post-mortem findings.
In cases involving unexplained or suspicious deaths, a post-mortem examination is an important part of the investigation. It can help establish how a person died and whether there are indications of injuries or other circumstances requiring further examination. Investigators may also consider evidence collected from the scene and information provided by witnesses.
For now, the exact circumstances surrounding Wadud’s death remain uncertain. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the next course of action and establish what happened inside the structure where his body was discovered.
