The police have uncovered an illegal domestic distillery operating inside a residential property in the Phulbari Upazila of Kurigram. During the targeted operation, law enforcement personnel seized a substantial quantity of locally manufactured liquor, colloquially known as “Bangla Mod”, alongside various raw materials and apparatus utilized in the distillation process. One individual was apprehended directly from the scene, whilst the homeowner was subsequently detained for formal questioning regarding the unlawful activities conducted on his premises.
According to police and local administrative sources, the raid was executed on Monday (22 June 2026) at approximately 4:30 pm. Acting on verified intelligence reports, a specialized team from the Phulbari Police Station targeted a homestead situated in the Kishamat Shimulbari Jhaukuti area, located within the Naodanga Union of the Upazila.
Intelligence gathered by law enforcement indicated that an unauthorised manufacturing facility had been operating surreptitiously within the residence of a local citizen, identified as Habibor Rahman, for an extended period. The facility was reportedly engaged in the bulk production and distribution of illicit domestic spirits without regulatory approval.
Upon breached entry into the compound, police officers caught an individual actively participating in the production cycle. The detained suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Gonai Chandra. However, the principal suspect and alleged operator of the illicit distillery, identified as Abdul Kader, managed to evade capture by fleeing the scene prior to the perimeter being fully secured by law enforcement.
A comprehensive search of the residential structure resulted in the recovery of extensive volumes of brewed local liquor stored in various containers, along with specialized equipment, chemical precursors, and apparatus used for fermentation and distillation. Following the initial phase of the raid, the owner of the property, Habibor Rahman, was taken into custody and transported to the police station for interrogation to ascertain his degree of complicity or knowledge regarding the enterprise.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station, Mahmud Hasan Naim, confirmed the details of the raid, stating that the law enforcement intervention was executed swiftly based on confidential intelligence files. He confirmed the seizure of the contraband spirits alongside the manufacturing equipment and verified the arrest of one suspect, as well as the detention of the property owner for formal deposition.
OC Naim further emphasized that whilst the primary perpetrator remains at large, multiple tracking teams have been deployed across the district to ensure his imminent arrest. The administrative process to initiate a formal criminal case under the Narcotics Control Act is currently underway.
