Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the political party of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has dismissed rumours of his death. On Saturday, PTI Senator Khurram Jishan confirmed that the former prime minister is alive and currently held in Adiala Prison.
He stated that the government has kept Imran Khan in a solitary cell as a strategy to compel him to leave the country.
In an interview with Indian news agency ANI, Khurram Jishan said that the government fears Imran Khan’s popularity, which is why he has not been allowed to release any photos or videos.
Earlier this week, some social media pages in Afghanistan claimed that Imran Khan had been killed inside Rawalpindi jail. Despite court orders, he has not been allowed to meet with his three sisters for the past month, leading to widespread rumours about his death on social media.
Khurram Jishan said, "This is extremely unfortunate. He has been kept in isolation for nearly a month. His family, lawyers, and senior PTI leaders have not been allowed to meet him. This is a complete violation of human rights. It appears they are trying to force him into doing something."
To dispel the rumours, Jishan confirmed, "In the past few days, it has been ensured that he is alive and held in Adiala Prison. He is in good health."
The PTI senator further stated that the Pakistani government has suggested he remain abroad quietly. He said, "They want a compromise with Imran Khan, asking him to stay abroad quietly. But Imran Khan will never agree to that."
Jishan remarked that even while imprisoned, the former prime minister’s influence is increasing. He added that PTI holds a strong position among Pakistan’s youth, and Khan’s ideology is resonating across generations.
He also said, "The future of PTI is bright. Since Imran Khan’s detention, no images have been released because the current government fears that even a single photo could trigger public support and mobilisation."
