The police have successfully recovered 110 bottles of smuggled Indian liquor during an early morning raid conducted in the border area of Dewanganj Upazila under Jamalpur District. The operation was executed in the early hours of Monday, 8 June, in the Pathorer Char area of Dangdhara Union, a region situated close to the international border with India. Although the contraband items were seized by law enforcement personnel, no arrests could be made during the drive as the perpetrators evaded capture.
According to law enforcement authorities, the operation was initiated by personnel from the Sanandabari Police Investigation Centre following the receipt of precise and confidential intelligence. The intelligence indicated that a significant consignment of illicit alcohol had been smuggled across the border and hidden in the vicinity.
Acting swiftly upon this information, a police detachment raided the Pathorer Char area within Dangdhara Union. During a meticulous search of the premises, the officers discovered 110 bottles of Indian liquor left abandoned inside a maize field, located directly in front of the residence of an alleged narcotics trader identified as Palash Mia. Police officials stated that the smugglers and traders involved managed to flee the scene prior to the arrival of the raiding party, having sensed the approaching law enforcement presence.
The seized contraband represents a significant financial value on the illegal domestic market. According to official estimates provided by the police, the total approximate market value of the recovered 110 bottles of Indian liquor stands at 440,000 Bangladeshi Taka (BDT). The entire consignment has been confiscated and taken into police custody as material evidence for the ensuing legal proceedings.
