Injury Forces Emon Early Return

Bangladesh opening batter Parvez Hossain Emon has returned home prematurely from the Pakistan Super League after sustaining a shoulder injury while representing Lahore Qalandars, cutting short what was expected to be a longer stint in the tournament.

The young left-handed opener was originally scheduled to remain in the PSL until 21 April, but the injury forced him to withdraw approximately a week earlier than planned. The setback occurred during match action, after which initial scans were carried out in Pakistan a few days later. Following medical advice, he returned to Bangladesh for further assessment under the supervision of the medical staff of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), led by its chief physician.

Upon arrival in Dhaka, Emon was evaluated by BCB physiotherapists and medical specialists. According to the board’s chief physician, Dr Debashis Chowdhury, the injury does not appear to be serious. He noted that while scans had already been conducted in Pakistan three to four days after the incident, the local assessment confirmed there was no major structural damage. The prognosis suggests a relatively short recovery period, with optimism surrounding his availability for upcoming international commitments.

Bangladesh are set to begin their T20 International series against New Zealand on 27 April, leaving limited time for recovery. However, the medical team remains hopeful that Emon could regain full fitness before the series begins. Dr Chowdhury indicated that the rehabilitation plan has been designed with that objective in mind, and that recovery within approximately one week is considered realistic.

Before his injury, Emon featured in three PSL matches for Lahore Qalandars, producing a mixed set of performances that included a notable explosive innings in his final appearance.

PSL Performance Summary

Match Runs Scored Balls Faced Notable Highlights
Match 1 12 Early dismissal
Match 2 14 Unable to convert start
Match 3 45 19 Five sixes in aggressive knock

His standout innings came in the third match, where he struck 45 runs off just 19 deliveries, including five sixes, showcasing his natural power-hitting ability at the top of the order. Despite the early returns in the first two games, that performance underlined his potential impact in T20 cricket.

The Bangladesh team management will continue to monitor his progress closely in the coming days, with a decision on his availability for the New Zealand series expected to depend on his rehabilitation response and final fitness clearance.
