In a coordinated attack alongside the United States, the Israeli Air Force has claimed to have dropped over 1,200 bombs and munitions on Iran in a single day. The operation, which took place on Sunday, 1st March, marks an unprecedented escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations. The report was confirmed by Al Jazeera, which detailed the scale and the targets of the airstrikes.
According to the report, one of the key targets of the bombardment was a primary girls' school in the city of Minab, located in the southern province of Hormozgan. At least 148 people were reported dead, with many others injured in the attack. The devastating strike has raised international concerns, as the school was a civilian target, raising questions about the morality and legality of such actions.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, condemned the attack, stating that "dozens of innocent children" had been killed in the bombing. He also issued a stern warning, asserting, "This attack will not go unanswered."
The escalation began on Saturday, 28th February, when a joint assault by the United States and Israel caused extensive damage in Iran. Iranian state media have confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strike, a development that has sent shockwaves through the country. Both the Tasnim and Fars news agencies confirmed Khamenei's death on Sunday, 1st March.
In response to the death of the Supreme Leader, the Iranian government declared a seven-day national holiday and a 40-day period of official mourning, reflecting the severity of the loss.

The airstrikes on Iran, particularly the targeting of a civilian school, have drawn widespread condemnation from various international bodies. Critics argue that such acts violate international humanitarian law, particularly with regard to the protection of civilians during armed conflict.
The death of Khamenei has triggered a period of uncertainty and grief in Iran, with many now fearing that the conflict could escalate further. Analysts suggest that in the wake of such significant losses, the Iranian government may take severe retaliatory measures, which could further destabilise the region.
This attack has intensified tensions between Iran and its adversaries, with both political and military implications for the broader Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape. As the world watches, the international community is bracing for potential ramifications in the coming days and weeks.
