In a significant development, President Mohammad Sahabuddin has urged the Public Service Commission (PSC) to ensure the completion of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams within the same calendar year. Traditionally, the BCS exam process, which includes preliminary, written, and oral stages, stretches across an entire year, resulting in delays in recruiting civil servants. The President’s suggestion comes as part of an effort to streamline the process and expedite recruitment.
On Sunday, 1st March 2024, a delegation of 15 members, led by Professor Dr. Mobashwer Monem, the Chairman of the PSC, visited the Bangabhaban to present the annual report to the President. During this meeting, President Sahabuddin emphasised the need for the PSC to implement a strategic roadmap to complete the BCS examination cycle within a year.
The President’s call to expedite the recruitment process aims to address the prolonged delays that have historically plagued the BCS exam system. Currently, it takes several months, sometimes stretching into the following year, for the entire process to be concluded. This delay has raised concerns over the timely induction of qualified candidates into various government departments.
The PSC, in response to the President’s request, has outlined a roadmap to ensure that the examination process is completed more efficiently. The roadmap is expected to streamline all stages of the BCS exam and bring the entire cycle to a conclusion within the calendar year, which will significantly reduce the waiting time for candidates.
During the meeting, the PSC Chairman discussed several aspects of the commission's activities and outlined the ongoing steps being taken to improve the examination and recruitment procedures. He also provided insights into the challenges the commission faces in ensuring timely and fair recruitment for the public service.
The session was attended by the Secretary of the PSC, along with senior officials from the President’s Office, who were involved in the discussions.
