Bangladesh’s celebrated rock singer Mahfuz Anam James is set to perform at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka on Friday (23 October), joining several of the country’s leading bands for an evening of live music.
The concert, titled ‘Rock N Rhythm 5.0: No Limits in the Zone’, will take place at the Carnival Arena inside Jamuna Future Park, one of the capital’s largest shopping and entertainment complexes. James will take the stage with his band Nagar Baul, alongside four other well-known Bangladeshi groups.
The performance marks a notable occasion for the veteran musician, who is returning to a ticketed concert in Bangladesh after a considerable interval.
Speaking ahead of the event, James expressed his enthusiasm about performing before a domestic audience once again.
“I am performing at a ticketed concert in the country after a long time. I hope the audience will get to hear and see something new,” he said.
His comments have added to the anticipation surrounding the concert, particularly among admirers eager to discover what the singer has planned for his return. However, details of any new songs or special arrangements have not been disclosed.
According to a Facebook announcement by the organiser, Adventor Communication, the event will feature performances by Nagar Baul, Ark, Warfaze, Aurthohin and Shunno.
The five bands have established distinct identities within Bangladesh’s music industry, with their work spanning different styles and generations of rock music.
Their participation will offer concertgoers an opportunity to experience a variety of musical performances at a single venue.
Another highlight will be guitarist Oni Hasan, who is scheduled to join Warfaze for a special performance. He is also expected to deliver a solo guitar presentation, adding an instrumental element to the evening’s programme.
Musician AK Rahul will also perform at the event, according to the announced line-up.
James has remained one of the most influential figures in Bangladesh’s rock music scene for decades. His powerful vocals, distinctive singing style and energetic stage performances have earned him a loyal following across generations.
Songs such as ‘Maa’, ‘Baba’ and ‘Bangladesh’ have contributed to his enduring popularity, while his work with Nagar Baul has helped establish his place in the country’s contemporary musical landscape.
His return to a ticketed concert is particularly significant for fans who have followed his career and appreciate the opportunity to experience his music in a live setting.
The other participating bands have also played important roles in shaping Bangladesh’s band music culture.
Ark has maintained a longstanding presence in the industry, while Warfaze is widely recognised for its guitar-driven sound and influence on the country’s rock music development.
Aurthohin has attracted a dedicated following through its distinctive musical approach, and Shunno has gained recognition for songs that appeal to listeners across different age groups.
Bringing these bands together creates an opportunity to showcase the diversity of Bangladesh’s rock music tradition, from established performers to musicians whose work has connected with more recent generations.
Oni Hasan’s scheduled collaboration with Warfaze is expected to attract particular interest among guitar enthusiasts. His separate solo performance will provide an additional attraction beyond the full-band sets.
The Carnival Arena at Jamuna Future Park will host the event, offering a central venue for the gathering of musicians and audiences.
Although the principal performers have been announced, the original report does not specify the complete running order, individual performance times or details of any possible surprise appearances.
For many music enthusiasts, the central attraction remains James’s appearance with Nagar Baul. His suggestion that audiences can expect something new has generated curiosity, even as the exact nature of the performance remains undisclosed.
With Nagar Baul, Ark, Warfaze, Aurthohin and Shunno sharing the stage, alongside special appearances by Oni Hasan and AK Rahul, ‘Rock N Rhythm 5.0’ is set to bring together several prominent figures from Bangladesh’s rock music scene.
The concert promises an evening celebrating the country’s longstanding band music tradition and the continued popularity of live rock performances among Bangladeshi audiences.
