Barcelona’s teenage star Lamine Yamal is reportedly planning an extravagant celebration in London as he hopes to claim his first Ballon d’Or, one of the most prestigious individual honours in world football.
The 19-year-old Spanish international is once again attracting attention in the race for the award. Having missed out on the main prize last year despite preparing celebrations in Paris, Yamal is reportedly making similar arrangements ahead of this year’s announcement.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona forward is optimistic about his chances of winning the coveted trophy. The report suggests that he intends to celebrate generously with his family and closest companions if he is recognised as the world’s outstanding footballer.
Spanish radio network Cadena COPE has reported that Yamal has chartered a private aircraft to travel to London on Monday, 26 October.
He is expected to be accompanied by his parents, Sheila Ebana and Mounir Nasraoui, his reported partner Inés García, other family members, friends and close associates. Members of his management team are also expected to join the travelling party.
The aircraft is reportedly scheduled to depart before midday on Monday, giving Yamal and his entourage time to arrive in London ahead of the ceremony.
The arrangements suggest that the young forward is preparing for the possibility of a memorable evening, although there has been no official confirmation that he will receive the award.
This year’s Ballon d’Or marks 70 years since the prize was established by France Football in 1956.
The inaugural winner was legendary English footballer Sir Stanley Matthews, whose achievements helped establish the award’s reputation as one of the highest individual distinctions in the sport.
According to the reports, London has been chosen to host this year’s presentation as a tribute to Matthews and to commemorate the award’s origins.
The ceremony is reportedly scheduled to take place at the London Palladium, a historic theatre in the city’s West End, at 9pm local time on Monday.
France Football has also been working with UEFA in organising the Ballon d’Or awards, bringing together the publication’s long-established individual honours and European football’s governing body.
For Yamal, the occasion carries particular significance following his disappointment at last year’s ceremony.
The Barcelona youngster had reportedly arranged celebrations in Paris in anticipation of winning the men’s Ballon d’Or. However, French international Ousmane Dembélé ultimately claimed the honour, forcing Yamal to abandon his planned festivities.
He left the ceremony at the Théâtre du Châtelet without the senior award, although the evening still brought him an important individual achievement.
Yamal received the Kopa Trophy, which recognises the outstanding young footballer under the age of 21. The distinction further strengthened his reputation as one of the most promising players in world football.
His emergence at Barcelona has been remarkable. Despite his age, he has developed into an influential figure in the club’s attacking system, combining pace, close control, creativity and an ability to unsettle opposition defenders.
According to the figures cited in the reports, Yamal registered 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 appearances for Barcelona during the period under consideration.
His contributions have extended beyond scoring. The young Spaniard has regularly created opportunities for teammates, stretched defensive lines and provided attacking inspiration in important matches.
Barcelona’s domestic achievements, including success in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, have also strengthened his credentials in the race for the award.
Yamal has continued to attract attention with his performances for Spain, where his technical ability, confidence and attacking intelligence have made him an important part of the national team’s plans.
His rapid development has been particularly striking because of the responsibility he has assumed at such a young age. Rather than simply being regarded as an emerging prospect, he has become a player expected to influence major matches for both club and country.
Nevertheless, the competition for the Ballon d’Or remains intense.
England striker Harry Kane has emerged as another prominent contender, with several recent media assessments reportedly placing him ahead of Yamal in the race.
The Ballon d’Or takes account of individual performances, collective achievements and a player’s overall contribution during the relevant assessment period. Consistency, decisive performances and success in major competitions can all influence the final outcome.
Yamal’s attacking statistics and influence at Barcelona have made him a serious candidate, but the strength of his rivals means that victory is far from guaranteed.
Winning the award at 19 would represent an extraordinary personal milestone and provide further recognition of his rapid rise through the ranks of European football.
For now, however, the Barcelona forward must wait for the official announcement.
Last year’s disappointment demonstrated how quickly expectations can change on football’s biggest individual awards night. This time, Yamal is once again preparing for success, with family members and close friends reportedly ready to join him in London.
Whether those preparations lead to a lavish celebration or another evening of disappointment will depend entirely on the final Ballon d’Or verdict.
