Janes Sumon, the renowned singer behind the iconic 1990s hit “Ekta Chador Hobe”, has sadly passed away. He died today, Friday, at around 4pm while receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka following a cardiac arrest.
The news of his passing was confirmed to The Daily Star by fellow singer and lyricist Ethun Babu.
Sumon, whose real name was Galib Ahsan Mehedi, first gained widespread recognition in 2002 after his performance of “Ekta Chador Hobe” on a popular magazine show aired on Bangladesh Television (BTV). Throughout his career, he recorded nearly 300 songs, leaving behind a legacy of memorable tracks.
Sumon’s debut solo album, Ashirbad, was released in 1997, and he became known for his powerful voice and heartfelt performances. Some of his most beloved songs include “Akash Kedechhe”, “Otithi”, “Ashabadi”, “Ay Tora Ay”, and “Cheri”.
His contribution to Bangladeshi music has left a lasting impression, and he will be remembered for his unique musical style and his influence on the country’s pop music scene.
