At least ten people, including a local volunteer party leader, were injured after indiscriminate gunfire by armed assailants in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district. The incident took place around 11:30 pm on Monday night in the Majdiyard area of Moricha union. All the injured were rescued and admitted to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred when there was a power outage in the area. At that time, Moricha Union Volunteer Party’s convenor, Robiul Islam (36), was walking in front of his residence. Suddenly, a group of approximately 10 to 15 armed individuals launched an attack targeting him.
Upon hearing his cries for help, his parents and nearby residents rushed to the scene. As more people gathered, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire, causing panic in the area. Several members of the family, including women and other bystanders, were struck by bullets during the incident. Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene immediately.
The injured individuals include Robiul Islam (36), his father Hafez Pramanik (70), Sohel Rana (45), Toma Khatun (26), Kamrul Islam (37), Munni Khatun (24), Runa Khatun (27), Mita Khatun (30), Touhidul Islam (30), and his wife Merina Khatun (25).

Robiul Islam could not be reached as his mobile phone was switched off following the incident. Speaking from Kushtia General Hospital, his maternal uncle, Liakat Ali, stated that the family was unaware of any dispute involving Robiul Islam. He added that the attackers arrived suddenly and began firing without warning, injuring multiple people who had come out after hearing the commotion.
Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station, Arifur Rahman, confirmed that several rounds of gunfire were heard in the Moricha union area during the night. He stated that ten people were injured in the incident, including Robiul Islam, who sustained serious injuries. Police responded to the scene shortly after receiving information and brought the situation under control. He further noted that the motive behind the attack remains unknown, and efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible. A case is in the process of being filed with the police station.
