Police in Chhatak have arrested Md Aftab Uddin, 53, president of the Kalaruka Union Awami League, during a targeted drive conducted under a special initiative dubbed ‘Operation Devil Hunt’. The arrest took place on Saturday, 8 August, following coordinated action by local law enforcement officers operating in Sunamganj district.
The detainee, Aftab Uddin, is the son of Md Fakhr Uddin and a resident of Rajapur village within Kalaruka Union. As a prominent local figure in the ruling political party’s union-level committee, he has been an active presence in local political affairs across the upazila for a considerable period.
According to police sources, Aftab Uddin was a named accused in a case officially registered at Chhatak Police Station under case number 28(7)2025. Following the formal filing of charges against him, law enforcement personnel kept his movements under close surveillance as part of broader efforts to maintain regional law and order and apprehend absconding suspects. Acting on precise intelligence regarding his location, an operational team from Chhatak Police Station raided his vicinity and took him into custody without incident.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chhatak Police Station, Mijanur Rahman, formally confirmed the arrest to reporters. He stated that the police team executed the operation efficiently as part of the ongoing ‘Devil Hunt’ campaign, which targets individuals wanted in connection with pending criminal matters and public order offences. Following his arrest, police processed the necessary documentation before presenting the suspect directly to the magistrate’s court to oversee the next phase of judicial proceedings.
Local authorities emphasized that drives such as ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ are part of wider, continuous measures designed to uphold public safety, deter criminal activity, and ensure that individuals facing active charges are duly processed through the legal system. Police patrols and targeted operations remain active throughout the Chhatak upazila to prevent any potential disruptions to public tranquility.
