A teacher at a religious seminary in Lakshmipur has been sent to prison following serious allegations of prolonged sexual abuse made by a residential student.
Police arrested Maulana Ibrahim, a teacher at the Ehyaul Ulum Hafizia Madrasa in Gandhabyapur village, located within the Mandari Union under Chandraganj Police Station. A second suspect, identified as Mohammad, the son of the institution’s principal, absconded following the allegations and remains at large.
The case came to light after the victim’s mother filed a formal complaint under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Chandraganj Police Station on Saturday, 24 October 2026. Acting swiftly on the report, a police team raided the seminary premises at approximately 4:00 pm that same afternoon and apprehended Maulana Ibrahim.
According to the victim’s mother, her son was enrolled in the residential section of the institution to memorize the Holy Quran and become a Hafiz. The young student had already completed four chapters (paras) of his studies. However, the boy recently confided in his family, revealing that both the teacher and the principal’s son had been subjecting him to repeated sexual abuse over an extended period. Demanding justice, the mother called for a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for all individuals involved in the misconduct.
Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rob confirmed that law enforcement responded immediately once the formal charges were lodged. Maulana Ibrahim was presented before a local court on Sunday, 25 October, where the magistrate ordered him remanded to judicial custody pending trial.
Police units are currently carrying out raids to locate and apprehend the absconding co-accused, Mohammad. Officers assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway to ensure all perpetrators are brought to book. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who are demanding stricter oversight of residential religious institutions to guarantee the safety and protection of young pupils.
