A shocking case of prolonged sexual abuse involving an eight-year-old student has emerged from a religious seminary in Chittagong’s Patiya upazila. The incident, which allegedly involves a teacher and three other students from the same institution, has triggered widespread indignation across the local community. Law enforcement officials confirmed the arrest of the accused teacher, identified as 20-year-old Aziz Ullah, on Saturday following a medical discovery that exposed the systematic abuse.
The victim, a second-grade student at the Azizia Naziria Tahfizul Quran Madrasah, situated in the Ishwarkhain Chowdhurypara area of Dhalghat union, had been suffering from severe physical ailments for some time. Initial indicators left family members under the impression that the young boy was suffering from haemorrhoids. However, as his discomfort intensified, his parents sought professional medical intervention. Following a comprehensive clinical evaluation, medical practitioners dismissed the family’s initial diagnosis, explicitly advising the parents that the severe physical trauma was indicative of sustained sexual assault.
Upon receiving the medical assessment, the distressed family gently questioned the child about his experiences at the residential institution. The eight-year-old subsequently revealed that he had been subjected to sexual abuse by his teacher, Aziz Ullah, for nearly a year. He further disclosed that three older students from the madrasah had actively assisted the instructor in executing the assaults. The child explained that he had kept the ordeal secret for months due to extreme fear, as the perpetrators had repeatedly threatened him with dire consequences if he spoke out.
When the family initially approached the local authorities to initiate legal proceedings, administrative figures and senior teachers from the madrasah actively intervened. The institutional authorities reportedly pleaded with the parents to bypass formal legal channels, orchestrating an attempt to suppress the scandal. The madrasah representatives urged the family to consider the future of the institution, arguing that a public criminal case would inevitably lead to the permanent closure of the seminary and tarnish its religious standing.
Despite attempts to conceal the matter, details of the prolonged abuse leaked to the public, prompting immediate action from law enforcement. Patiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaul Haque confirmed that police teams moved swiftly into the area upon receiving credible intelligence, leading to the apprehension of Aziz Ullah. The remaining three accused students have been formally ordered to present themselves at the police station for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following his arrest, Aziz Ullah was produced before a local court under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure as a primary suspect. The police administration noted that the victim’s family is still finalizing the paperwork for a formal case. OC Ziaul Haque assured that as soon as the definitive written complaint is registered, the detained teacher will be formally charged as the principal accused in the case, and rigorous legal action will be pursued against all individuals involved in the abuse and the subsequent cover-up.
