Man Arrested Following Attempted Rape of Schoolgirl

The police have apprehended a 52-year-old man, identified as Adhir Monidas, on charges of attempting to rape a 10-year-old schoolgirl in the Saturia Upazila of Manikganj. The incident took place on Monday, 1 June, during the afternoon in Daspara village, located within the Dargram area of the upazila. The arrested individual, Adhir Monidas, is known to be the son of the late Rajendra Monidas, a resident of the same locality.

Incident Details and Legal Proceedings

According to the First Information Report (FIR) and local sources, the victim, a third-grade student, went to bathe at approximately 2:00 pm on Monday. The location was a local pond owned by Joran Chandra Monidas, situated near the child’s residence in Dargram Daspara. Whilst the girl was bathing and applying shampoo to her hair, the accused, Adhir Monidas, launched an unexpected assault on her. As he attempted to rape her, the child began to scream in terror.

Hearing her cries for assistance, a neighbour from an adjacent house rushed to the scene immediately. Upon realising that a witness was approaching, the suspect abandoned the victim and fled the site in haste. Following the assault, the victim’s father, Nepal Monidas, lodged a formal complaint later that evening at the Saturia Police Station. Acting swiftly on the report, the Saturia police conducted a targeted night raid and successfully apprehended the accused, Adhir Monidas.

“A case has been registered at the police station regarding the attempted rape of the child. The police conducted a raid at night and arrested the accused. Procedures are underway today (Tuesday) to present him before the learned court through the appropriate legal process and send him to judicial custody.”
