Man Arrested for Cyber Harassment and Assaulting Mother and Child

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in Bogra’s Adamdighi Upazila following allegations of persistent cyber harassment, child molestation, and a violent physical assault on a local woman. The suspect, identified as Apon Badsha, reportedly targeted both the woman and her 10-year-old daughter over an extended period. Law enforcement officials apprehended him on Friday evening at around 9:00 pm from the Lord Lytton Bridge over the Chhoto Jamuna River in Naogaon town.

Badsha, the son of Azizar Rahman, hails from Uthrail Jahanabaz village under Adamdighi Upazila. According to the police report, he had been subjecting the victim to severe digital harassment via Facebook Messenger. He allegedly sent obscene photographs, explicit videos, and highly offensive messages in an attempt to solicit inappropriate favours. The harassment extended beyond the internet; Badsha reportedly made numerous unsolicited audio calls to the victim and frequently targeted her young daughter with street-level sexual harassment.

The digital intimidation escalated into physical violence on 21 June. At approximately 12:30 pm, the victim was riding her scooter home. As she reached the Santahar railway gate, she encountered Badsha and confronted him regarding the explicit messages and his inappropriate behaviour towards her daughter.

The confrontation turned violent when Badsha reacted with fury, punching and kicking the woman from behind. He then struck her on the back of the head with a sharp iron object. The assault left the victim with a deep laceration on the left side of her head, causing severe bleeding. Before fleeing the scene, Badsha snatched a gold chain from around the woman’s neck. Local residents rushed to her aid, transferring her immediately to the Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.

Following the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint on 27 June, leading the Santahar Railway Police to record a case under the Pornography Control Act and relevant sections of the Penal Code. Md Dulal Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santahar Railway Police Station, confirmed that the suspect was forwarded to the court on Saturday morning, 11 July, following his arrest. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing the case rigorously to ensure justice for the victims.
