The suspect, identified as Akhinur Islam, also known as Babu, was apprehended at approximately 10:10 am in the Chhota Poila village under the Poila Union.

Acting on a confidential tip-off regarding narcotics distribution in the area, a specialized team from Ghior Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mizanur Rahman, conducted the operation directly outside Akhinur’s residence. Upon sensing the presence of law enforcement personnel, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, officers intercepted and detained him after a brief chase.

During a body search conducted in the presence of local witnesses, officers discovered a package wrapped in blue transparent polythene hidden on his person. The package contained 400 grams of processed cannabis, estimated by police authorities to carry a street value of approximately 16,000 Taka.

Preliminary interrogations conducted by investigating officers revealed that Akhinur had procured the illicit substances with the explicit intention of selling them to local buyers and small-scale dealers within the upazila.

Following the seizure, law enforcement registered a case against the suspect at Ghior Police Station under Section 36(1), Table 19(a) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

Local police stated that anti-narcotics drives and surveillance operations have been intensified across Manikganj district to curb the illegal trade and transport of banned substances. Police personnel completed the necessary procedural formalities before producing Akhinur in court, where he was formally remanded into judicial custody and transferred to the Manikganj district jail.
