A horrific road accident involving two high-speed motorcycles and a three-wheeled Nasimon carrying coconuts has left three young people dead and two others severely injured in Bagerhat’s Morelganj sub-district.
The head-on collision took place around 6:00 pm on Saturday (3 October) along the Signboard-Sharankhola regional highway in Dona village, located within the Balaibunia Union of Morelganj.
According to local residents and police reports, the two motorcycles were travelling at high speed when they collided head-on with the oncoming Nasimon, a locally assembled three-wheeled motorised vehicle laden with green coconuts. The impact was exceptionally severe, destroying the motorbikes and throwing their riders onto the tarmac.
Two of the victims died instantly at the scene due to catastrophic injuries. Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the site shortly after the crash to rescue the survivors and clear the highway.
Police subsequently identified the three deceased youths as 25-year-old Rimon, son of Babul Miah; 22-year-old Amin Hossain, son of Nazrul Islam; and 16-year-old Muhib, son of local schoolteacher Mohammad Jamal. All three victims were residents of Kalikabari village in Morelganj.
Three critically injured individuals were quickly loaded into vehicles to be transported to the Morelganj Upazila Health Complex. Tragically, 16-year-old Muhib succumbed to his injuries en route to the medical facility.
Confirming the casualties, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Morelganj Police Station, Mohammad Shahidullah, stated that officers immediately arrived at the scene upon receiving reports of the tragedy. He confirmed that two individuals perished on the spot, while a third died on the way to hospital.
Medical staff at the upazila health complex provided emergency treatment to the remaining two injured individuals. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, doctors referred one survivor to Khulna Medical College Hospital for specialised advanced care.
Police officers secured the crash site, seized the involved vehicles, and commenced preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The sudden loss of three young lives has cast a profound blanket of grief across Kalikabari village, where relatives and neighbors gathered to mourn the victims.
