The incident unfolded during the early hours of Monday, 10 August, at the home of expatriate Abdul Salam Miah in Singrapur village, located under Paratali Union. According to eyewitnesses, Hriday allegedly entered the premises at around 3:00 am with the intention of committing burglary. Residents inside the house woke up upon hearing movements within the structure and quickly raised an alarm. Acting swiftly, they secured the latch on the door from the outside, trapping the intruder within the room. Hearing shouts for help, neighbours gathered at the scene, apprehended Hriday, and bound him securely to prevent escape.

The situation escalated dramatically the following morning when a crowd gathered to interrogate the suspect regarding the alleged break-in. During the questioning, tension mounted, and an enraged mob began launching a violent physical assault against the bound man. Hriday suffered extensive bodily injuries during the mob attack and eventually collapsed unconscious.

Recognising the gravity of his condition, some local residents intervened and rushed the critically injured young man to the nearest healthcare facility for emergency medical treatment. However, Dr Farzana Akter, the attending physician at the hospital’s emergency department, declared Hriday dead upon arrival following an initial physical examination.

Law enforcement authorities arrived shortly afterwards to take control of the situation. Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mujibur Rahman confirmed the fatality, stating that officers recovered the body and dispatched it to the district hospital morgue for a formal post-mortem examination. Police personnel have initiated preliminary enquiries into the incident, with formal legal proceedings currently being prepared against those involved in the fatal mob lynching.
