Police in Lakshmipur have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of unlawfully entering a residence and assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Md Faisal, a resident of Gopinathpur in the Dakshin Hamchadi Union, was presented before the court on Tuesday afternoon, 8 September, where the presiding magistrate ordered him to be remanded to judicial custody.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, 6 September, when the victim’s mother had briefly left the house to visit a local market. According to the police case statement, Faisal, who resides in the neighbouring property, had been harassing the minor for some time. Capitalising on the absence of adult supervision, he forced his way into the house and attacked the child. When the young girl attempted to cry out for help, the perpetrator forcefully covered her mouth and threatened her with death if she disclosed the assault to anyone.
The victim’s mother returned home during the ordeal and witnessed the suspect fleeing the premises. Her immediate cries for assistance alerted nearby residents, who also spotted the suspect making a hasty escape. On Monday evening, 7 September, at approximately 9:30 pm, local villagers located Faisal in the Gopinathpur area, detained him, and subsequently notified the authorities. Upon receiving the call, a police unit arrived at the scene, took him into custody, and arranged for preliminary medical treatment at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital before formal questioning.
Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station registered a case under the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act. Sub-Inspector Monir Hossain confirmed that preliminary investigations have substantiated the allegations brought against the suspect. The victim has been provided with medical support and formal forensic examination procedures, whilst law enforcement authorities continue their detailed investigation to complete the charge sheet.
