Manikganj observed World Teachers’ Day 2026 on Monday with elaborate events, emphasising the paramount importance of ensuring teachers’ professional dignity, safeguarding their rights, and acknowledging their contributions to nurturing future generations.
The day’s proceedings were jointly organised by the Manikganj District Administration and the District Education Office. This year’s global theme, “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education”, framed the discussions, reflecting six decades of international efforts to protect the teaching profession and elevate its social standing.
The celebrations commenced at 9:00 am with a colourful rally originating from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Teachers, educational administrators, and local dignitaries paraded through key roads before gathering at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room for a seminar.
Presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Najmul Hasan Khan, the discussion featured Deputy Commissioner Najmun Ara Sultana as the chief guest. Addressing the audience, speakers underscored that educators form the bedrock of an enlightened, compassionate, and knowledge-driven society. They stressed that alongside elevating academic standards, establishing fair remuneration, safe working conditions, and professional security for educators remains an urgent necessity.
Prominent speakers at the event included Deputy Director of Local Government Mousumi Khanam, District Education Officer Amir Hossain, and District Primary Education Officer Gokul Chandra Debnath. Views were also shared by Manikganj Press Club President Jahangir Alam Biswas, Bangladesh Teachers’ Association District Branch General Secretary and Joynagar High School Headmaster Abdur Razzaque, and National Polytechnic Institute Director Engr. Dr Mohammad Faruk Hossain.
Further contributions came from Shibalaya Government High School Headmaster Lokman Hossain, Khabashpur Adarsha College Lecturer Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Manikganj Technical School and College Instructor Abir Hasan Mukul, and Teota Government Primary School Headmaster Abdul Khalek.

World Teachers’ Day has been observed globally on 5 October since 1994, following the landmark 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. The annual commemoration serves as a critical reminder of the benchmarks required to empower educators and transform education systems worldwide.
