Health authorities have reported a continued rise in measles-related fatalities, with three additional deaths recorded within the past 24 hours, according to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services control room on Monday (22 June). While these latest deaths are classified as measles-suspected, officials confirmed that no deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were recorded during the same period.
The update forms part of a broader national surveillance report covering the period from 15 March to 22 June, which highlights a sustained public health concern involving both suspected and confirmed measles cases across the country.
According to official figures, the total number of deaths associated with suspected measles since 15 March has reached 590, whereas confirmed measles-related deaths during the same period stand at 93. In the last 24 hours alone, 965 new suspected cases were recorded, alongside 160 confirmed cases.
The cumulative data further indicates that suspected measles infections remain significantly high, with 93,755 cases reported nationwide since mid-March. During the same period, confirmed cases have totalled 11,171. Hospitalisation figures also reflect the ongoing strain on healthcare facilities, with 77,743 suspected cases admitted for treatment. Of these, 73,985 patients have been discharged following recovery.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely, with emphasis on surveillance, case identification, and clinical management in affected regions.
