A 14-year-old boy who had been missing for two days in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar has been found dead, prompting shock and grief across the local community.

The body of Junayed Mia was recovered by police on Sunday, 29 March, at around 8:30pm from the Kamarpura area of Bade Alisarakul under Bhunbir Union. Authorities confirmed the recovery after conducting a search operation in the locality following reports of his disappearance.

Victim Identified as Expatriate’s Son

Junayed Mia, aged 14, was the son of Ramiz Mia, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Dubai. The teenager had gone missing on Friday evening, 27 March, at approximately 7pm, shortly after leaving his home in Alisarakul village.

According to family members, he was last seen near his residence before his sudden disappearance, triggering immediate concern among relatives and neighbours.

Following his disappearance, the family launched a public appeal for assistance in locating the boy. His father, Ramiz Mia, went live on social media platform Facebook, requesting information about his son’s whereabouts.

The live broadcast quickly circulated online, drawing widespread attention and concern from local residents and beyond. Despite the extensive search efforts that followed, the situation took a tragic turn when the teenager’s body was recovered two days later.

Family Reaction and Allegations

The discovery of Junayed’s body has plunged the family into deep mourning. In another Facebook live session after the recovery, the grieving father named several individuals, urging authorities to arrest and bring them to justice in connection with his son’s death.

He also appealed for support from local political leaders, including the Member of Parliament for the area, as well as other respected community figures, calling for swift intervention and a thorough investigation.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

The incident has created widespread alarm in the locality, with residents expressing fear and demanding urgent action from law enforcement authorities.

Sreemangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zahirul Islam Munna confirmed the recovery of the body at around 10:30pm on Sunday. He stated that police were present at the scene and were actively working on the matter.

“We are currently at the location and investigating the incident,” he said. “Legal action will be taken following due procedure.”
