To make Dhaka’s traffic management more modern, humane, and effective, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is advancing the construction of five two-storey traffic police boxes.
On Sunday (30 November), DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz inaugurated a fully modern two-storey traffic police box at Agargaon Crossing.
During the inauguration, he stated that traffic police officers perform their duties in the sun, rain, and storms. In many areas, they are forced to work from tin shelters, which is unacceptable in this city. The DMP requested the construction of modern police boxes. We are creating a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing work environment for the officers so that they can carry out their responsibilities more efficiently.
Special care was taken during construction to ensure that pedestrians are not inconvenienced. The structure is designed in such a way that people can move freely underneath it.
Mohammad Ejaz also noted that the police boxes have been built to be female-friendly. Initially, a single toilet was planned, but separate facilities for female and male officers were later added. The entire structure has been designed as climate-resilient and environmentally friendly.
DNCC reported that similar smart traffic police boxes are under construction at four locations: Mirpur-13 (next to Harman Mainar School), in front of Shahid Suhrawardy Hospital, beside Police Plaza (adjacent to Fazle Rabbi Park), and at Sonargaon Intersection.
Also present at the event were DNCC Chief Engineer Brig. J. Moin Uddin and DMP Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Sufian Ahmed.
