A mysterious motorcycle fire beneath a flyover in Rajshahi has prompted a police investigation and fuelled widespread speculation among local residents. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Moherchandi Flyover area under Chandrima Police Station and resulted in the complete destruction of the motorcycle.
According to eyewitness accounts, several young men and women were seen engaged in a heated argument near the flyover shortly before the fire broke out. Moments later, passers-by noticed flames engulfing a motorcycle parked nearby. The blaze intensified rapidly, leaving little opportunity for intervention before the vehicle was reduced to a charred frame.
The unusual nature of the incident quickly attracted public attention and became a major topic of discussion in the neighbourhood. Various theories have emerged regarding the cause of the fire, although none has yet been substantiated by investigators.
Some local residents have claimed that the motorcycle may have been deliberately set alight by a young man following a dispute involving a romantic relationship. However, authorities have stressed that there is currently no verified evidence to support such claims. Police say it would be premature to draw conclusions before the completion of the investigation.
The incident took place on the same day that allegations surfaced regarding a flash procession by activists linked to the banned student organisation Chhatra League in Rajshahi city. While both events occurred on the same day, law enforcement officials have not indicated any connection between the two developments.
Speaking about the fire, Chandrima Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam stated that investigators are examining all possible causes, including accidental ignition and intentional arson. He noted that the motorcycle was completely destroyed, making it difficult to identify immediate clues at the scene.
Police are now attempting to determine the identity of the motorcycle’s registered owner through its chassis number. Investigators believe this step will be crucial in establishing the circumstances leading up to the fire and identifying any individuals who may have been involved.
Authorities have also confirmed that they have not yet determined who ignited the fire, if indeed it was set deliberately. Officers are collecting witness statements and reviewing available information from the surrounding area as part of their inquiry.
