Four Members of Family Die in Mumbai
Four members of the same family have died in Mumbai, India, following a sequence of events that began after a late-night meal on Saturday. The case has drawn attention after initial speculation linked the deaths to food consumption, though subsequent forensic findings have introduced additional medical findings under investigation.
According to available details, local businessman Abdullah Dokhadia hosted a dinner with family members and relatives on Saturday night. After the guests departed, he and his family consumed watermelon around 1 a.m. Shortly afterwards, all members of the household reportedly developed symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea. Within a few hours, Abdullah Dokhadia, his wife Nasrin, and their two teenage daughters, Zainab and Ayesha, died.

Preliminary post-mortem examinations revealed unusual findings. Medical officials noted that several vital organs, including the brain, heart, and intestines, showed an abnormal greenish discolouration. Such observations are not typically associated with standard cases of food poisoning, according to the initial forensic assessment.
Further developments in the investigation identified the presence of morphine in Abdullah Dokhadia’s body. Authorities have stated that the origin of this potent analgesic remains unclear. Investigators are examining whether its presence may be linked to medical treatment or other external factors. No conclusion has yet been reached regarding how the substance entered his system.
The Food and Drugs Administration in Mumbai has stated that no direct link has been established between the consumption of watermelon and the deaths. It has also been noted that the family had consumed mutton pulao during the same dinner and were reported to be in normal health at that time.
Authorities are continuing toxicological and forensic examinations to determine the precise cause of death. Police have confirmed that an accidental death case has been registered while investigations proceed.
In addition, investigators are examining other possible factors, including the presence of any toxic substances and whether personal or business-related disputes could be relevant to the incident. However, no confirmed findings in these areas have been disclosed.
Further forensic reports are awaited, and officials have stated that no definitive conclusions will be made until all results are analysed.
