Mymensingh Horror: Missing Customs Officer’s Dismembered Remains Found Floating in Village Pond

Investigators in Mymensingh have launched a major murder inquiry following the discovery of the dismembered remains of a missing customs employee, found packed into submerged bags in a local pond.

The victim, 40-year-old Abu Raihan Talukdar, was employed as a sepoy at the Kamalapur Customs House in Dhaka. His severed body—cut into 15 separate pieces—was retrieved on Sunday morning after local residents noticed three luggage bags and a tied cloth bundle floating on the surface of a pond adjacent to his family property in Swaitpur Uttarpara village, located in the Enayetpur Union of Fulbaria upazila.

Mr Talukdar, who resided alone in Dhaka following a marital separation, maintained a routine of travelling to his native village almost every weekend to visit his elderly mother. He arrived at the family home on the night of Thursday, 23 July. Relatives confirmed that he departed the following morning, intending to return to his station in the capital. He was last seen walking away in the company of Raju, an adolescent caretaker employed at his rural estate, and Raju’s companion, Jitul, who had offered to see him off.

The alarm was raised two days later when colleagues from the Customs Security Branch contacted Mr Talukdar’s family to report his absence from work. With his personal mobile device rendered continuously unreachable, his elder brother, Md Nurul Islam, filed a formal missing person report (General Diary) at Fulbaria Police Station on 27 July.

Attention quickly turned to the teenage caretaker, Raju, and his associate Jitul, both of whom vanished immediately after Mr Talukdar’s disappearance. According to family sources, Mr Talukdar had treated Raju with considerable benevolence, providing him with residence, paying for his schooling, and giving him a regular monthly stipend.

The police investigation gathered momentum on Friday when a specialist diving team recovered Mr Talukdar’s personal key ring from the bed of the Bazuya River in the Anantapur locality. The search concluded grimly on Sunday when villagers alerted law enforcement to the suspicious packages drifting in the village pond.

Confirming the recovery, Rashedul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Fulbaria Police Station, stated that the victim was likely slain before being dismembered and discarded in the water. Authorities believe the decomposition process caused the weighted sacks to resurface.

The remains have been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Law enforcement agencies have intensified manhunts across the region to locate the absconding suspects and uncover the underlying motive behind the atrocity.
