Police in Ashulia have arrested two individuals, including a local political leader, for their alleged involvement in the abduction of a 16-year-old female student from Savar Cantonment Public School and College. Officers confirmed that evidence directly linking the suspects to the crime prompted the arrests.
The detainees have been identified as Touhidur Islam Sanbi, Secretary for Liberation War Affairs for the Dhaka District North unit of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), and his associate, Nazim. Both suspects were presented before the court on Wednesday afternoon following night-time raids across Ashulia. However, the prime suspect in the case, 23-year-old Shakil, remains at large as law enforcement agencies continue search operations to locate him and recover the victim.
According to the police report, the Year 10 student had reportedly been subjected to persistent harassment by Shakil and his accomplices during her daily commute to school. The victim’s mother, Arifa Akter, dropped her daughter off at the school gates at approximately 8:00 am on Monday. Upon returning to collect her at 2:15 pm, she discovered that her daughter had been abducted at around 2:00 pm directly from outside the school premises by Shakil and his associates.
Following the incident, Arifa Akter filed an official case at Ashulia Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Tuesday. The complaint named Shakil, son of Md Habibur Rahman from the Madhupur area in Ashulia, as the primary accused alongside several unnamed accomplices.
Investigating officers subsequently uncovered evidence indicating that the NCP leader Sanbi and his associate Nazim actively abetted and facilitated the abduction. Acting on specific intelligence, police teams conducted coordinated raids in various parts of Ashulia on Tuesday night to take both men into custody.
Confirming the developments, Tarikul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station, stated that preliminary investigations revealed direct involvement and instigation by Sanbi and Nazim. He added that the court process has commenced for the arrested suspects, while special police teams remain deployed to apprehend Shakil and safely rescue the schoolgirl.
