A local court in Chattogram has placed Mobarak Hossain Imon, widely known by his alias “David Imon”, on a five-day police remand in connection with an extortion case registered at Hathazari Police Station. Second Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim granted the remand order on Wednesday afternoon following a formal hearing.
David Imon is listed by police as a notorious criminal in the region, implicated in at least 18 criminal cases, including double murder, extortion, and arms offences.
Court Inspector Habibur Rahman confirmed the judicial order, stating that investigating officers from Hathazari Police Station had originally petitioned for a seven-day remand to interrogate the suspect. After hearing arguments from both sides, the magistrate granted a five-day custodial interrogation period.
The development follows a series of police actions against Imon. Law enforcement officers arrested him along with three associates in the early hours of 29 July from the Jhumjhum area along the Narail-Jessore highway while they were travelling in a vehicle. On 30 July, he was formally shown arrested in three separate cases and remanded to prison.
Subsequent to his arrest, investigators moved to secure further remand orders across multiple jurisdictions where Imon faces charges. On 2 August, police sought two five-day remand orders against him—one involving a murder case filed at Fatikchhari Police Station and another concerning an arms case.
Investigating officers expect that the latest period in police custody will yield crucial information regarding his extortion network, the location of illegal firearms, and the whereabouts of remaining associates linked to his criminal operations across Chattogram.
