Dhaka Metropolitan Police have detained 401 individuals during a series of coordinated law enforcement drives across the capital over the past 24 hours. The extensive crackdowns, conducted across all major administrative divisions of the metropolis, aimed to curb criminal activity, seize illicit weapons, and disrupt illegal drug networks operating within the city.

An official press release issued by the police headquarters on Wednesday confirmed that 26 separate cases have been filed in connection with the operations. Law enforcement personnel systematically targeted crime hotspots across various neighbourhoods. A division-wise breakdown of the operations reveals that 74 individuals were apprehended in Tejgaon, 71 in Mirpur, and 68 in Motijheel. Operations in the Wari division yielded 51 arrests, while 42 suspects were detained in Uttara and 36 in Gulshan. Furthermore, officers rounded up 34 individuals in Lalbagh, 24 in Ramna, and one suspect was taken into custody by the Detective Branch.

During these targeted raids, officers recovered a collection of sharp weapons, including a sword, a meat cleaver, an iron rod, and a specialized iron weapon fitted with a sharp circular blade. Police officers also confiscated a private motor car believed to have been utilised in criminal acts. Alongside the physical weapons, anti-narcotics units seized 95 yaba tablets, 70 grams of heroin, and 668 grams of cannabis.

These round-the-clock drives form part of an ongoing security strategy by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to restore public order, reduce violent crime, and dismantle local drug distribution networks across the sprawling capital. Senior officials confirmed that legal proceedings against all the detained individuals are currently underway, with suspects being processed for court appearances. Police patrols and surveillance across vulnerable sectors of the city have been intensified following the operations to prevent further criminal disruptions.
