A forty-year-old pharmacy owner, identified as Siam, has been apprehended and handed over to the police after allegedly assaulting an eleven-year-old child in Ashulia, Savar. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, 17 June 2025, in the Kumkumari Bazar area under Ashulia. According to local residents and the police, the victim had gone to the retail outlet to purchase medication for stomach pain.
Upon her arrival, the suspect managed to lead the young child further inside the premises of the pharmacy. It is reported that Siam then subjected the child to a sexual assault and subsequently threatened her with dire consequences before ordering her to leave the establishment.
Following the ordeal, the affected child immediately disclosed the details of the assault to nearby residents and family members. Upon learning about the incident, an angry crowd of local residents gathered at the Kumkumari Bazar area and detained the accused pharmacy owner. The members of the public subjected the suspect to a severe physical beating, commonly referred to as a mass beating, as immediate retaliation for the alleged crime.
As the situation escalated, residents contacted the local law enforcement authorities via telephone to report the assault and the ongoing public detention of the perpetrator.
Upon receiving the distress call, a team of police officers from the Ashulia police outpost was dispatched to the specific location in Kumkumari Bazar. The law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene, rescued the suspect from the hands of the agitating public, and officially took him into custody.
The officers then transported Siam from the spot to the local police station for formal processing. Because of the injuries sustained during the public beating, the police authorities had to arrange for his immediate medical attention.
The Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station, Mohammad Tarafder, confirmed the development to reporters and stated that a police contingent was deployed immediately upon receiving reports concerning the child assault. The officer verified that the suspect was arrested at the scene and brought to the station before being transferred to the local Upazila Health Complex, where he remains admitted under police guard to receive treatment for his injuries.
The police official further noted that the victim has been successfully rescued by the law enforcement team and sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination and psychological support.
The Ashulia Police Station administration has stated that a thorough investigation into the incident is currently underway.
