Police Ambushed; Weapon Snatched in Narayanganj

A late-night attack on a police patrol in Narayanganj’s Bandar area has left two officers injured and resulted in the temporary theft of a service weapon, prompting a swift recovery operation and a wider manhunt for the perpetrators.

The incident took place at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Rustampur area of Kolagachhia Union. According to police, the situation escalated after earlier reports of a robbery involving three students from a local government college who had gone out in the Sabdi area during the night.

Police said the students had been stranded due to heavy rainfall and were reportedly targeted by a group of muggers around 1:30 a.m. Following their distress call, a Bandar police patrol team was dispatched to the scene. What initially appeared to be a routine response soon turned violent.

Upon arrival, the officers were ambushed by the same group of assailants. The attackers launched a sudden and coordinated assault, injuring Assistant Sub-Inspector Sohail and Constable Faisal. During the confrontation, Constable Faisal was stabbed and his service shotgun was snatched by the attackers amid the chaos.

A police official confirmed that the stolen weapon was later recovered during a follow-up search operation in the surrounding area. Both injured officers received initial medical treatment locally and are reported to be in stable condition.

Bandar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge stated that multiple police teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack. He further added that legal proceedings are being prepared in connection with the assault on law enforcement personnel and the theft of police arms.

Authorities have described the incident as a serious breach of security and an attack on state forces, underscoring the urgency of tracking down the suspects.
